About Meals to Grow

Meals to Grow is a Feeding America Backpack Program designed to address childhood hunger on a local level. It is a tax-deductible 501(c)3 program operating through Trinity United Methodist Church in Huntsville, Alabama. The program began in 2008 by providing weekend meals for 40 children attending Terry Heights Elementary School.  Since then, the program has grown and approximately 6200 bags of food were distributed to children in the 2010-2011 school year.

We believe children should never go hungry.  Yet, many children who depend on school provided meals have little or no access to nutritious food on weekends.

How do we help?
Meals to Grow volunteers assemble bags of food for children identified by the school as being high risk of hunger.  On Fridays the bags are discretely placed in the children's backpacks, providing them food when other resources may not be available.  For the 2011-2012 school year, Trinity will deliver bags of food to 180 children each week at University Place Elementary School.  These children can return to school on Monday ready to learn.
